Over the last two decades the interest in reception studies has escalated significantly, offering a new sophistication to the scholarly investigation of the classical tradition, and new insight on its evolution through modern scholarship. Comprising 26 newly commissioned essays from an international team of experts, A Companion to the Classical Tradition accommodates the pressing need for an up-to-date introduction and overview for this booming field. The Companion is divided into three sections: a chronological survey, from the Middle Ages to the modern era; a geographical survey, including Latin America, Africa, and Central-Eastern Europe as well as Western Europe and the US; and a group of topics ranging from post-colonialism to gender construction that illustrate the intersection of the classical tradition with contemporary theory.
