Beschreibung

This text examines the impact of climate change on freshwaterecosystems, past, present and future. It especially considers theinteractions between climate change and other drivers of changeincluding hydromorphological modification, nutrient loading, aciddeposition and contamination by toxic substances using evidencefrom palaeolimnology, time-series analysis, space-for-timesubstitution, laboratory and field experiments and processmodelling. The book evaluates these processes in relation toextreme events, seasonal changes in ecosystems, trends overdecadal-scale time periods, mitigation strategies and ecosystemrecovery. The book is also concerned with how aspects of hydrophysical, hydrochemical and ecological change can be used as early indicatorsof climate change in aquatic ecosystems and it addresses theimplications of future climate change for freshwater ecosystemmanagement at the catchment scale. This is an ideal book for the scientific research community, butis also accessible to Masters and senior undergraduatestudents.

Stimmen zu »Climate Change Impacts on Freshwater Ecosystems«

"In conclusion, the volume is excellent supplementaryreading for graduate students and professionals, and individualchapters would do well as core readings on any course that looks atclimate change in a freshwater context." (LandscapeEcology, 1 May 2013) "Overall, the book is a valuable stand-alone publicationon the subject of climate change and freshwaterecosystems." (Austral Ecology, 1 November2012) "This book makes an excellent contribution to summarizingthe current state of knowledge and deserves a place on thebookshelves of natural scientists and decision makersalike." (Journal of Paleolimnology, 2011) "Overall, I think that this volume will be of greatinterest to a broad audience in aquatic biology, mainly within thelimnetic community, but also to terrestrial scientists becauselakes integrate changes in the terrestrial landscape." (The Quarterly Review of Biology, 1 March 2012) "Summing Up: Recommended. Graduate students and above." (Choice,1 August 2011) "Whether you agree with the interpretation or not, this is a funapproach to science that makes the book all the more enjoyable."(Frontiers of Biogeography, 1 June 2011)
