As an integral component of environmental policy, it has becomeessential to regulate and monitor toxic substances. Past emphasishas been primarily on analytical approaches to the detection ofspecific, targeted contaminants, thus allowing chemicalcharacterisation. However, toxicity testing or biologicalassessment is necessary for ecotoxicological evaluation, and thisoffers marked benefits and advantages that complement chemicalanalysis.
Key issues to be addressed include identification of pertinenttests, reproducibility and robustness of these tests, and costconsiderations. This book examines these issues and describes andexplains the approaches that have been developed for environmentaltoxicity evaluations. Advantages, benefits and drawbacks of thestrategies and methods are highlighted.
Directed equally at ecotoxicologists, industrial chemists, analytical chemists and environmental consultants, this book iswritten in a way that will prove helpful to both new andexperienced practitioners.
