This book focuses specifically on Dioxins and Furans, more precisely polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs). Such chemicals have been identified as some of the most toxic chemicals known to science and, although no longer commercially available, they are still unintentionally produced during most forms of combustion (waste incinerators) and several industrial chemical processes. In light of many years of increasing concern over the persistent and widespread toxicity of these classes of compounds, this volume presents the latest developments and trends in this field, examines the practices for reducing dioxins emission and reviews the current status of air, water, soil and food contamination with PCDDs and PCDFs.
