Economic integration between nation-states which agree to pursue common goals and policies is increasingly important across the world. This collection places the most studied schemes such as the European Union and NAFTA into a truly global perspective, with comprehensive coverage of Latin America, sub-saharan Africa, South-East Asia, the Arab League and the Caribbean Community. These accessible surveys by leading experts are supplemented by analysis of the theoretical underpinnings of such schemes and the empirical problems of quantifying their effects, concluding with a topical analysis of concerns that they will lead to a world divided into three powerful trading blocs.
