The vast majority of vibrations encountered in the real environmentare random in nature. Such vibrations are intrinsically complicatedand this volume describes the process that enables us to simplifythe required analysis, along with the analysis of the signal in thefrequency domain.
The power spectrum density is also defined, together with therequisite precautions to be taken in its calculations as well asthe processes (windowing, overlapping) necessary to obtain improvedresults.
An additional complementary method - the analysis ofstatistical properties of the time signal - is alsodescribed. This enables the distribution law of the maxima of arandom Gaussian signal to be determined and simplifies thecalculation of fatigue damage by avoiding direct peak counting.
