This book examines the science, management and practice of thecontrol of infection. The early part of the book is concerned withthe science of infection control, providing the underpinningknowledge base as well as information regarding the laboratoryservices which will be of practical help to the reader. The bookthen discusses the role of the Infection Control Team, outbreakcontrol and policy issues that are required in order to maintain asafe environment. The second half of the book concentrates on the practicalapplication of the previously described principles to the reductionof infection risks and management of known infections in a range ofclinical and social situations. The book reflects the currentdynamics in health care provision and will equip the reader withthe knowledge base to develop their skills in the control ofinfection in a variety of healthcare settings.
