In 1987 a terrible fire swept through London's Kings' Cross Underground station killing 31 people. Within days the police had found names for all but one of the victims. the unidentified man was known to the authorities as "Body 115" after his mortuary number. Body 115 was so severely burnt that it took sixteen years to solve the mystery of his identity. Set against the disastrous King's Cross fire, this book tells Body 115's incredible story and that of the police team that battled to find his name and next-of-kin. With only a handful of forensic details and eyewitness statements, the police had to piece together Body 115's former life. Then, using detective skills and the latest scientific techniques, they had to trace his identity. The investigation was prolonged and convoluted and took the police across the globe as well as into the murky world of London's missing persons community. With its combination of real-life drama, investigative story-telling and forensic science, Body 115 is a detective story for our times.
