The Economic System provides an accessible account of introductoryeconomics theory that allows students more fully to appreciate themain features and complexity of the Economic System by integratingmicroeconomic and macroeconomic principles on a topic-by-topicbasis. The purpose of the approach is to allow the student tounderstand the economy as a system of complex and inter-relatedfeatures incorporating: consumers, producers, markets andgovernments based on an understanding of the roles of prices andmarkets and exchange. This structure provides a context wherebystudents understand that to analyse issues from an economicperspective often requires the use of both micro- and macroeconomictools and an appreciation of the interrelationships that existbetween them.
An explicit aim in the book is to clarify how models andconcepts in economics are useful as tools that support rigorous, methodical and logical analysis and not simply useful to solvemathematical "puzzles" by providing one "correct" answer.
